The Chef’s Table 2021

Experience innovative Canadian cuisine from the Resident Chefs Program at the National Arts Centre’s 1 ELGIN patio along the beautiful Rideau Canal.


 

The Chef’s Table is a farm-to-table feast with menus curated by Canadian chefs and musical entertainment. Presented by the Festival of Small Halls, this year’s series will run for six weekends this summer in collaboration with the National Arts Centre’s Resident Chefs Program.

The Chef’s Table will host chefs Yannick Anton (‘Signatures – by Le Cordon Bleu’, Ottawa ON), Nick Benninger (‘Fat Sparrow Group’, Waterloo ON), Renée Lavallée (‘The Canteen’, Dartmouth N.S.), Kenton Leier (NAC), Joseph Shawana (Manitoulin Island ON), Sara Shpyth (Ottawa ON), Joe Thottungal (‘Coconut Lagoon’, Ottawa ON)

Celebrate a special occasion with a three-course meal from world-class chefs – or just enjoy reconnecting with your closest friends over food, music, and the beauty of a summer night by the Rideau Canal. Safe and distanced group dining on a spacious patio, with live musical entertainment performed from a floating stage.

Small group bookings accepted ($125 per person- price is inclusive of taxes, fees, and gratuities).

Chef Nick Benninger (‘Fat Sparrow Group’, Waterloo ON)
Chef Nick Benninger is known for his fresh, farm-to-table approach to cuisine, and has grown his entrepreneurial repertoire from one restaurant to several in the Kitchener/Waterloo area, as well as a catering company, bakery, butcher shop, 3 market stalls and a wholesale food producer, all under the umbrella of his parent company, Fat Sparrow.

Chef Yannick Anton (‘Signatures – by Le Cordon Bleu’, Ottawa ON)
Originally from the South of France, Chef Yannick Anton began his career and honed his craft in some of the country’s most prestigious establishments before making the move to Canada in 1994. After bringing the highest degree of culinary skill to some very esteemed restaurants, as well as state dinners for Global Affairs, he was appointed to Executive Chef of Signatures Restaurant by Le Cordon Bleu in November 2006.

Jackson Miles is fuelled by a tight team of musicians that are living out their dream in unison with their passion to please any crowd at any event! Boasting a wide repertoire of music that can adapt to all ages and styles from Johnny Cash, to Bob Marley, to CCR, to Ed Sheeran and even to classic oldies.

Chef Renée Lavallée (‘The Canteen’, Dartmouth N.S.)
Originally from Shawville, QC, (not far from Ottawa), Chef Renée Lavallée has been based in Dartmouth, NS, for 14 years where she’s established a reputation for seasonally fresh and beautifully executed East Coast cuisine through her restaurants, The Canteen and Little C, as well as an appearance on Top Chef Canada.

Chef Sara Shpyth (Ottawa ON)
One of Ottawa’s brightest up-and-coming chefs, Sara Shpyth made her reputation at Fraser Café where she moved from line chef to head chef in less than two years. With a passion for French cuisine, pastry and a farm-to-table philosophy that she infuses into all of her work, she is creating dishes that are as delectable as they are gorgeous.

The Commotions are ready to command crowds with brassy beats and smooth ballad treats, all about bringing back the spirit of those super Soul sounds of the 70s and the Motown rhythms that once had them dancing in the streets.

Blessed with a searing three-octave range, Rebecca Noelle has graced stages in Africa, Asia, Europe and even the North Pole. She’s performed on stages with artists such as The Jacksons, The Beach Boys, Bonnie Raitt and BB King.

Chef Joe Thottungal (‘Coconut Lagoon’, Ottawa ON)
Award-winning chef, Joe Thottungal, is known in Ottawa for his unique take on fine South Indian cuisine. The exciting and modern interpretation of authentic Kerala cuisine he serves at his restaurants, Coconut Lagoon and Thali Coconut Lagoon, have earned him both the admiration of his peers and a very loyal clientele.

Chef Joseph Shawana (Manitoulin Island ON)
Chef Joseph Shawana is Odawa, part of the Three Fires Confederacy. Born and raised in Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve located on Manitoulin Island (ON), his classical French training and Aboriginal background combine to create authentic, Native American cuisine executed with world-class culinary technique.
