Harnessing that small hall vibe

Well the countdown continues. We have some amazing talent lined up but we’re getting our musical ducks in a row before we announce them.

Did you know that in our hall roster this year, we have two former schools, churches dating back to the mid-1800s, historic town halls, and even a community hall that was a general store in another lifetime? These complement many other beloved buildings with loads of community memories encapsulated within four walls. Our venues play a huge role in making the Ontario Festival of Small Halls so special.

They lend that cozy community vibe by setting the stage in a treasured building that is a natural gathering place. These halls have been bringing people together for dinners, bingos, theatre, meetings, and celebration of milestones for years. They embody rich cultural histories and countless stories to tell.

Now, we’re getting set to add the musical element – and boy, oh boy, you’re in for a treat! We can’t wait to share the line-up for our fifth anniversary. Insider tip: the public will have a full day between the time we announce the schedule and when the tickets go on sale. That will give everyone a chance to rally their friends and co-ordinate calendars so you can plan to attend your sought-after shows!

That’s right, we said the Festival has been rolling for five years! Communities across Eastern Ontario have been throwing open the doors of their small halls for unforgettable musical events for half a decade. What started with just three small shows has grown exponentially to more than 35 this year in communities across Eastern Ontario. We are even heading more centrally this year with shows in Combermere and Matawatchan.

We’re so grateful for all of the support from dedicated volunteers, hard-working hall hosts, friendly patrons, talented musicians and the amazingly vibrant rural communities that have welcomed us so far. We’re looking forward to announcing the schedule this month and preparing for another fall of making musical memories with you all!
