The Dacre and Area Community Association (DACA) is a volunteer-operated, non-profit charitable organization based at the foothills of the Mt. St. Patrick mountain range, between the villages of Mt. St. Patrick and Dacre, Ontario. DACA was incorporated on November 9, 1979. It was also in this year that the organization began looking for a suitable home for themselves. A long time resident of the area, Alice Sheedy, donated four acres of land along the Flat Road in memory of her son Alphonse. The years of 1981 through 1983 saw the land surveying and construction of an outdoor rink and with the help from Provincial grants (Wintario), sponsors, donations, fundraising and endless volunteer hours, by October 1984 a community center was completed sporting an exterior of strong, aged and weathered logs that were deconstructed from local barns. Since then, DACA has strived to fulfill its obligation to develop and foster community spirit, promote athletic games, drama, art, music, handicrafts, hobbies, recreations and many other community endeavors. Currently, our facility consists of a 400 square meter fully accessible community center and banquet hall. The grounds also have a large parking lot, fenced-in ball field, outdoor skating rink, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, children’s play structure, garage, shed and gazebo.

For 38 years DACA has held annual community events, such as St Patrick’s Day Celebrations, Horse Pull Competitions, Canada Day Celebrations, Softball Tournaments, Holiday Celebration events (Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Halloween), Bingos, Winter Carnivals, Concerts, etc. As well as being available for private functions such as weddings, luncheons, wakes, meetings, etc. The DACA Board and Executive, and all of our Lifetime and Annual Members would like to encourage anyone new to our community to come to a DACA social or recreational event, or drop in on a general meeting, or talk to any of the Board or an active member, and see what our association has to offer. Help us celebrate our most cherished Seniors and encourage and inspire our youth to carry forward the legacy of the Dacre and Area Community Association.
