Finding inspiration at the PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls

It’s always great to keep an eye on another festival – especially one so close to our hearts.

The Prince Edward Island Mutual Festival of Small Halls is kicking off this weekend and we’re wishing them all the best! The PEI event is one which inspired our own Ontario Festival of Small Halls, and we love the spirit of community, hospitality, exceptional music and pure fun that PEI has fostered in its events.

With more than 50 performances in only 14 days, the PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls is both ambitious and intimate. Just like the Ontario festival, small town halls are put on the big stage with acclaimed musical acts. However, the PEI Festival also incorporates storytelling and dance.

The PEI festival cleverly draws from the island’s rich Irish, Scottish and Acadian cultures to seamlessly meld music and dance, through continuing the island’s proud tradition of singer-songwriters and folk tales. Set for June 12 to 25, 2016, it draws rural island communities together while paying tribute to their small, cherished spaces.

The Ontario Festival of Small Halls is proud to partner with the PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls, with both festivals selecting one or two common artists every year to proudly showcase the collaboration.

Thanks for the inspiration, PEI Mutual Festival of Small Halls! We can’t wait for our own festival to start strumming again in September.
